Person is at risk of poverty or social exclusion if their household has low income, experiences severe material deprivation or household is a low work intensity household (see: concepts). Reference period for the AROPE indicator is income reference year. Sub-components low income and low work intensity refer to the income reference year whereas severe material deprivation refers to the year of data collection (income reference period + 1). Eurostat publishes data concerning risk of poverty or social exclusion by year of data collection.
