Documentation of statistics
The reference period of the Innovation Survey is three years and innovation activity is defined on the basis of the three years covered by the entire reference period. The year variable in the databases is the last year of the three-year reference period and at the same time, the statistical reference year of the survey.

Product innovations (goods or services)

Enterprise introduced product innovations, i.e. goods or service innovations, during the three-year survey period. Product innovations are new or improved goods or services that differ significantly from the enterprisess previous goods or services and has been introduced on the market.

Goods innovations

Enterprise introduced new or improved goods on the market during the three-year survey period

Service innovations

Enterprise introduced new or improved services on the market during the three-year survey period

Products new to market

Enterprise introduced such new or or improved products (goods or services) that the competitors did not have previously and which thus were new to the enterprise's market

Products new to enterprise

Enterprise introduced such new or or improved products (goods or services) that were identical or very similar to products already offered by the enterprise's competitors but were new to the enterprise

Process innovations

Innovations relating to enterprise's business functions implemented during the three-year survey period. A business process innovation is an implemented new or improved business process for one or more business functions that differs significantly from the enterprises previous business processes.

Innovation activity

Innovation activity includes all developmental, financial and commercial activities, undertaken by an enterprise, which are intended to or result in an innovation.
