university) are covered by these statistics with harmonised concepts and classifications.

Concepts and definitions

Area

The location of education is based on the location municipality of education (upper secondary school students, vocational education in educational institutions, polytechnic and university education) or the location municipality of the educational institution (comprehensive school education, adult basic education and matriculation examinations) or the location municipality of the education provider (vocational apprenticeship training).

Students total

Military education is included in the figures starting from 2010.

Foreign students

Foreign students are students whose nationality is other than Finnish.

Foreign speaking students

Foreign-language speaking students are students whose native language is not Finnish, Swedish or Sami.
