Classification of Buildings 2018 

You can search for a category using the search function or by viewing the classification tree below. The search is directed to the category’s name, code  and search words. 

Search, for example: Low-rise blocks of flats, 1010, grain or bank  

Building classification conversion key 

By means of the conversion key, you can examine to which some three level category category in the Classification of Buildings 1994 belongs in the Classification of Buildings 2018.  

Select at the top the button “Building classification conversion key”. Then the category search and selection are directed to categories according to the Classification of Buildings 1994 (on the left in the interface) and you can see the category or categories corresponding to your selection in the Classification of Buildings 2018 (on the right in the interface). 

Industrial classification conversion key 

The purpose of use of the building often corresponds to one or more activities according to the Standard Industrial Classification. With the industrial classification conversion key, the aim is to describe possible activities (Standard Industrial Classification categories) that are practised in different types of buildings (Classification of Buildings categories).  

Select at the top the button “Industrial classification conversion key”. Then the category search and selection are directed to five-digit level categories according to the Standard Industrial Classification 2008 (on the left in the interface) and you can see the category or categories corresponding to your selection in the Classification of Buildings 2018 (on the right in the interface).  

NB. When applying for a building grant, an individual building is always classified according to the lowest four-digit level of the Classification of Buildings 2018.
