Underlying cause of death (ICD-10, 3-character level)

According to the WHO guideline, the alcohol-related disease (alcoholism or alcoholic liver disease) was preferred to the alcohol poisoning as the underlying cause of death in the statistics in 1998-2004. This rule is not valid since 2005.

A change in the WHO coding rules has reduced pneumonia as an underlying cause since 2005, after which pneumonia appears in the statistics mainly as an immediate cause of death.

Code C97 went out of use 2005. Since 2005, codes C00-C80 include deaths due to this cause.
A new code I15 was added 2005. Before 2005, codes I00-I13 included mainly deaths due to this cause.
Codes P71 and P74 went out of use 2005. Since 2005, other P-codes include deaths due to this cause.
Since 2007 alcohol-induced acute pancreatitis belongs to code K85 instead of code K86.
A new code J09 was added 2009.
Codes C78-C79 went out of use 2012 and code C77 2013. Codes C00-C80 will include deaths due to these causes.
Since 2012 X42 includes deaths due to use of drug tramadol instead of code X40.
A new code W46 was added 2013. Before 2013, code W45 included deaths due to this cause.
A new code C86 was added 2015. Before 2015, code C84 included deaths due to this cause.
A new code K64 was added 2015 to replace code I84, which went out of use.
A new code A97 was added 2019 to replace codes A90-A91, which went out of use.
Code B59 went out of use 2019. Since 2019 code B48 include deaths due to this cause.
A new code G14 was added 2019. Before 2019, codes G10-G12 included mainly deaths due to this cause.
A new code U07 was added 2020 including COVID-19 virus infections U071 and U072.
